Inclusive Hiring for People with Disabilities at Microsoft

From the very first days of our company, Microsoft has sought to enable individuals and organizations around the world to do great things. Our Mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. One of the ways we will fulfill this ambition is through an unwavering commitment to a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture.

Internally, we have a vibrant and active disability community. The community, established over 15 years ago, expanded to over 12 groups including ‘parents of children with special needs,’ people with Multiple sclerosis (MS), Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS), as well as some of our oldest groups for employees with deafness or sight loss. Each group is actively managed by teams of Microsoft employees.

disAbility Employee Resource Group (ERG)

The disAbility ERG's goal is to enable employees at Microsoft to reach their full potential through inclusion, representation, and access to accommodations and in doing so, be the employer of choice for people with disabilities globally. The ERG represents employees with conditions such as hearing loss, blindness, visual impairments, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADD), mobility disabilities, and dyslexia.

With more than 1,000 constituents, the group gives attention to numerous items throughout the year. These include sponsoring activities at an annual internal company event known as the Ability Summit that focuses on the engineering side of accessibility as well as the societal and social sides of disability in the workplace, community and home.

Microsoft's Autism Hiring Program

Join a one week hands on academy that focuses on workability, team projects, and skill assessment; giving you an opportunity to showcase your unique talents and meet multiple hiring managers and teams while learning about Microsoft as an employer of choice.

The goal of this program is to attract talent and build an inclusive approach to support individuals on the autism spectrum that will contribute to the way we work as a company in building and servicing our products.

We have two upcoming events:

·         August 7th, we will have our first university event for recent graduates and current students (focused on engineering)

·         October will be our typical industry event (focused on engineering)

To apply for consideration through the Autism Hiring Program, please send your resume to msautism@microsoft.com. You can also apply by sending your resume directly to dcareers@microsoft.com. It is helpful to include the specific roles or openings you are most interested in.
