One reason for Exelon's consistent success is our focus on a diverse and inclusive workforce. This includes ensuring we have a workplace and environment where great people who happen to have disabilities have the tools they need to be successful with the company. We want our employees to bring new ideas, innovative thinking and diverse points of view as we know that drives our progress.
Creating an Inclusive Workspace
Meet Shannon Webster, Recruiting Programs Specialist
Diversity begins when we are able to accept, celebrate and embrace the different abilities within each of us. My journey with Exelon began in 2014, when right out of college, I was unsure if I should self-identify as a person with a physical disability. I was anxious to land a job after graduation and didn’t want to jeopardize my chances of employment. Little did I know, Exelon saw me for my talents and abilities, not my disability. Living with Cerebral Palsy has given me many life experiences, however, those challenging experiences have made me that much stronger and have given me skills that are an asset within our recruiting team.
As a Fortune 100 and the leading energy company in the nation, Exelon has provided some very rewarding opportunities to blend my personal passion for disability advocacy within my role. Exelon’s employee resource group ENABLED (Exelon Network for Awareness Benefitting Leaders and Employees About Disabilities) is a community that is dedicated to sharing resources, education and advocacy for people with disabilities and their families. This group became like a family to me. I have also had the opportunity to speak at the National United States Business Leadership Network (USBLN) conference in 2015 and 2016 as a conference panelist. My involvement with ENABLED and community partners such as ADA 25, Career Opportunities for Students with Disabilities (COSD) and Chicago Business Leadership Network (CBLN) have been so integral to my success at Exelon and personal growth.
Meet Kim Brown, Senior Business Analyst – ComEd
I work in the area of Transmission and Substation Work Management for ComEd’s office in Joliet. In this role, I ensure that all capital projects are opened, closed and charged correctly. I also assist with budgeting and planning for our bi-monthly nuclear interface meeting. I am also the vice-president of the Employee Resource Group ENABLED at ComEd.
What I like most about Exelon are the people. The people are what make coming to work easy. We are a family. You are encouraged to bring about change and your successes are celebrated. I also like that my position has so many different components to it and I am constantly setting higher goals to achieve.
