Why hiring veterans is a key ingredient to our recipe
From Machine Operators to Senior Directors, Kellogg has seen the vast benefits of hiring Veterans because of the unique skillsets and leadership they bring to the table. We are proud of our efforts to recruit and develop Veterans across the United States and are committed to hiring more.
The values Veterans experience in their military service are similar to our K Values, which describe who we are, what we believe and what brings us together as a global community. Our K Values – integrity, respect, accountability, passion, humility, hunger, simplicity and success - help define what makes our company and our people special and how we all play a unique and critical role in the ongoing success of Kellogg.
Outreach: The ingredient to recruiting Veteran talent
To proactively engage with Veteran talent across the United States, Kellogg’s recruitment team leverages partnerships with organizations such as Recruit Military, Getting Hired, and Military MOJO to name a few. Here’s what our partner Recruit Military has to say about our commitment:
“Kellogg is deeply committed to hiring veterans and military spouses across its various business segments, and has built a great infrastructure for internal support” says Lisa Miller, RecruitMilitary’s director of sales, central region. “We are proud to work with an employer that understands the unmatched value of military-trained talent, and that prioritizes the job skills veterans and military spouses bring to the table.” – Lisa Miller, Director of Sales, RecruitMilitary

The Recipe for success: Internal and Local Community support

Internally, we have Business Employee Resource Groups like KVets, which focuses on supporting Veterans in our company and local communities through a variety of impactful initiatives. These include attending military career fairs, sending care packages to active military personnel, and participating in “Battle Buddies,” which is a mentor program for veterans who join the ranks as new employees within Kellogg. Internally, we also focus on educating our employment population about the benefits of hiring Veterans by providing Managers a comprehensive “Veteran Engagement Toolkit.” This toolkit informs managers on a number of topics including military structure; common myths about veterans; how to support veteran transitions; engaging and retaining veteran talent; and understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
This year, alone Kellogg has been recognized by both the Military Times and DiversityInc for our commitment to being a veteran-friendly employer.
Searching for a job? Here’s advice from one of our own Vets
One of Kellogg’s very own Veterans, Jason Cook, sits on the North American Talent Acquisition Team as a Team Lead for Recruitment. Pulling from his own experiences, Jason recently wrote an extremely helpful and engaging article on LinkedIn that serves as a valuable resource to Veterans as they look to start a career with a company.
