At Getting Hired, we support all job seekers with disabilities in finding a job in the United States. Every day, our dedicated Account Management team helps our inclusive employers build diverse workforces.
There are 1 in 4 individuals that have a disability within the United States with 3.5 million veteran’s ages 21-64 reporting having a disability. At Getting Hired, we are often asked by job seekers if they qualify as having a disability because they’d like to leverage our website as a career resource.
Due to this frequently asked question, we created this blog to help you understand if you qualify to be a Getting Hired job seeker.
How is having a disability defined at Getting Hired?
It’s important for job seekers to know that Getting Hired follows the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) definition of a disability and in the context of the ADA, "disability" is a legal term and not a medical one.
By definition, the ADA states an individual with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity.
What disabilities are included in the ADA?
To help provide additional context, we recapped a list identified by the Job Accommodation Network (JAN). It’s important to note, this list does not include all disabilities and is just meant to be a guide due to frequently asked questions about our website.
